To get financially prepared for college next year, senior Rian Browne took part in the National Merit Scholarship Program. This program uses students’ PSAT test scores in a competition that is rewarded with scholarships. Browne, who has been declared a Commended Scholar as well as a competition semi-finalist, joins the ranks of the top 15,000 participants out of the 1.5 million who take the PSAT test.
Within the next few months, the National Merit Scholarship Corporation will announce the finalists in the competition. If Browne is chosen as a finalist, he will have the opportunity to write an essay and obtain letters of recommendation for his reception of a scholarship from the NMSC. These scholarships range in value from $2500 to a full ride. Browne hopes to move on in the competition, and he is glad to have made it this far.
“I look forward to the announcement of finalists in the next month or two,” Browne said.
